This Singaporean was getting impatient about his delayed GrabFood delivery, but it all changed when he saw the rider By John Lim 19 hours, 31 minutes
We all need a shift in perspective from time to time. The world is selfish because humans are flawed. And because of that, we often take even the simplest of pleasures for granted. When is enough truly enough?
Perhaps Shahril Jantan’s recent interaction with a GrabFood rider is a stark reminder all of us need.
Shahril had ordered bubble tea for his wife via GrabFood Singapore yesterday, March 28. The pick-up point for the delivery rider was at Tampines, a residential region located east of Singapore. Shahril lives at Bedok Reservoir. According to him, it would normally take around 20 minutes for a rider to reach him.
30 minutes went by, the rider was nowhere in sight. Shahril was getting impatient and slightly exasperated. He tracked the rider on the Grab app and realized that movement was slower than usual.
When the GrabFood rider had gone past the car park at his place of residence, Shahril became furious.
But his anger soon diminished into a sense of utter guilt.

He quickly rushed towards her and asked if she really did come all the way from Tampines to his residential area. The lady rider said yes.
“I went up to her as she reached my lift lobby and my heart really sank.
“As she passed me the drink, having made payment via GrabPay, I quickly reached out for my wallet and pass her whatever cash I have in it. I was a little shocked, to be honest. I was lost for words.”
As a token of appreciation, Shahril gave her some extra cash to applaud her dedication and professionalism for her work.
Shahril hopes his encounter will be an inspiration to able-bodied people.
Grab’s attitude of inclusiveness for people with disabilities is also commendable. It’s heartening to know that a company of this scale welcomes them to take up jobs as an honest living.
