I once read a text from a psychologist saying that popular psychology is still the best psychology we have (or something along those lines).
The point is probably not, that “popular psychology” in general is the best approach, but that most results in psychological sciences just prove some popular methods that already exist. I.e. half of popular psychology beliefs might work, but the other half could be mistaken. But those 50% of methods that work might contain most of the scientific methods that work.
So the popular methods are likely the best we have – but only for those methods that actually work.
