The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Cup The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Cup began in 1927 and is one of the oldest news organization award programs in the country so it comes with a great history and heritage. This prestigious award honors very special high school graduates. Each student was selected as the best all-around senior by their school’s faculty and administration based on academic achievement, leadership, community service and extra-curricular involvement. This award recognizes their hard work, focus and commitment. Abigail Butte Lanier Christian Academy Dalton State University Abigail Butte is a shining light at Lanier Christian Academy. She is at the top of her class along with being involved in extracurricular activities through Beta Club, President of the National Honor Society, and soccer. Abbey is a great manager of time and easily manages to fulfill all of her commitments with flare. Abigail Miller Walnut Grove High School University of Georgia It is our pleasure to nominate Abigail Miller as this year’s AJC cup winner. Abigail is a wonderful representation of Walnut Grove High School. She is an involved member of her school and local community! She ranks in the top of her class while maintaining a rigorous course load compiled of various AP and Dual Enrollment courses. She is also a year-round athlete. Addison Gaddy Centennial High School Harvard Addy is intellectually curious and demonstrates a sense of urgency and passion about learning. She is also a natural leader who encourages and guides others. Recipient of the International Skill Diploma Seal, Spanish Honor Society, Model UN, and earned her Girl Scout Gold Award. Addison Orr Villa Rica High School Berry College Addie deserves this award because she is an all around amazing young lady. She is excellent in the classroom and in sports. Addie loves her school and takes pride when representing VRHS. Addie is responsible and a natural born leader. Other students look up to her, and she sets a great example for those who will be following in her footsteps. Addie is the perfect representative for VRHS to receive the AJC Cup. Aidan Munroe The Galloway School Undecided (Duke, Georgetown, or Swarthmore) Aidan is the definition of integrity, promoting harmony and understanding within the Galloway community. He is currently the Co-President of our Minority Empowerment Forum, a four-year elected member of our Student Association, and a three-time recipient of our Excellence in Citizenship Award. He also holds leadership roles in Mock Trial and Debate, Culinary Club, Video Gaming Club, and Galloway’s Pit Orchestra as a percussionist. Aidan is accepting, open-minded, and culturally competent while remaining humble and modest despite his many academic and extracurricular accomplishments. Aiden Albert Georgia Cyber Academy Aiden wants to become a physician. He plans to go to college (decision on which one still pending). Aiden is a remarkable young man. He pushes hard to make sure his grades remain at the top, but also puts in extra time participating in our CTAE clubs. This was our first year with HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) our healthcare club and Aiden not only participated, but he was the first student to qualify for a state level of competition for GCA. The topic was Epidemiology. This was a topic he studied beyond our classroom to achieve this honor. He truly worked hard and we are so honored to have him as our first GCA state level participant for our new healthcare program. Aiden has been accepted to Georgia Tech and University of Georgia, we can not wait to see where he lands. Aislynn Gonzalez Ola High School Georgia State University on full Presidential Scholarship Aislynn is an outstanding individual with a bounty of integrity. She can produce impressive results in a wide variety of areas. I have seen astonishing results on complex projects that offered great attention to detail where quality was never compromised. Additionally, Aislynn has a very positive attitude and truly embraces learning. She has consistently exceeded in all areas of his coursework. She is ranked 4th in a class of 441. The work she accomplishes in class clearly shows her ability to deliver clear, concise, and well-thought completion of assignments and projects. She strives for perfection by taking Honors/AP classes throughout her high school career and was elected to represent Ola High’s Mustang Athletic Advisory Council. Aislynn excels in all her academic classes as well as being a four-sport student-athlete. Aislynn has shown dedication to our JROTC program as a student leader. She is a role model for the students at Ola High School as well as for the Ola community. Alaija Jones Morrow High School Undecided Alaija is one of our best all around students. She’s active in numerous organizations. Academically, she ranks in the top 5 percent of the class of 2023. She exemplifies excellence without excuses. Alexander Sabatino Mount Pisgah Christian School Honors College at Auburn University Alec is a stellar student with a genuine thirst for knowledge. He is an AP Scholar with Honor and a National Honor Society member. Alec is a multi-sport varsity athlete (football, track & field, wrestling, and equestrian), founding member of the Mock Trial team, STEM, Horticulture and Hydroponics Clubs, and a commissioner for Student Government. Most notable is Alec’s contribution to the Mount Pisgah science program through his Eagle Scout project, which was the construction of a chicken coop that houses five chickens, and whose eggs are donated regularly to the North Fulton Community Charities. Alina Abraham Alliance Academy for Innovation Undecided Alina is an exemplary and exceptional student that can be identified by many as a student who embodies the core values of a good citizen. From her contagious smile and endless willingness to support her community, Alina is identified as a student that exemplifies not only academic excellence, but also leadership and community. Her presence has been recognized within the county as well as the state. Whether she is supporting her fellow HOSA members at a state conference, or playing a guitar she just learned a few months before a talent show to support her peers at school, Alina’s passion to serve has allowed her to obtain meaningful connections and relationships that has become embedded as lasting memories. We are proud to elect Alina Abraham as our 2023 AJC Cup recipient. Allison Duncan Heard County High School LaGrange College We chose Allison Duncan as our AJC Cup recipient because she is a remarkable young woman who is respected by faculty and her peers alike. She is a perfect choice due to her engaging personality, high moral character, and willingness to always go above and beyond what is expected of her. Allison has always managed to balance superior grades (she has a 4.0 GPA) with her numerous extracurricular activities. She has been a varsity cheerleader throughout high school, and this experience has assisted in developing her leadership abilities. Allison also enjoys singing and is a valued member of our school’s chorus program. In her spare time, Allison is a student volunteer at our Gym and Performing Arts Center, where she helps coordinate concerts and other events for the school system and the community. In addition, Allison has been taking college classes for the past two years while still in high school. Allison will be attending LaGrange College this fall, where she will be the recipient of several generous scholarships. She has also been chosen to participate in their cheer program. We are so proud of Allison’s commitment to success and know that she will make Heard County proud. Alora Bevily Mill Creek High School Alabama State Alora is a great student who is graduating with honors. She is a two-sport athlete and a mentor to young girls in both track and softball. Amelia Heller The Weber School Harvard University Amelia Heller’s dedication to academic excellence, tenacity, and drive distinguish her from her peers. Fearlessly tackling academic and extracurricular challenges, she earned the honor of valedictorian and engaged in a wide array of activities. Her resilience and willingness to embrace new opportunities, such as transitioning from arts to sports, showcase her ability to grow and succeed by stepping out of her comfort zone. Amelia’s math journey, where she challenged herself with higher-level courses despite being a humanities-oriented student, highlights her determination to excel at the highest level possible and her adaptability in diverse fields. America Lopez Amador Tri-Cities High School Kennesaw State University America Lopez is a one of Tri-Cities HS’s most accomplished students. During her four years as a Bulldog she has been recognized for not only for her academic achievements, but also for her outstanding involvement in so many clubs, teams, and groups within the school. Some of her most recent accolades include: CTAE Student of the Year, Posse Scholarship Nominee, Ms. Red, Black & Silver, Volunteer in the Unidos Center, Media Center and for the Football Team Member of DECA, BETA Club and FBLA FCS Senior Spotlight Student. Andrew Botchwey Charles R. Drew Charter School Edward ‘Andrew’ Botchwey IV is a decorated scholar, passionate Robotics Engineer, scholar-athlete, and beloved community member. Since 2020, Andrew has conducted research in the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory for Intelligent Decision and Autonomous Robots (LIDAR) Lab at Georgia Tech, through the Project ENGAGES program. He has worked toward the goal of building a robotic hand that can easily manipulate complex objects. Andrew is a decorated School, District, State, and International Science Fair competitor for his robotics innovations. Beyond academics, Andrew is a dedicated servant leader, and tirelessly repairs wheelchairs and home medical equipment through the Friends of Disabled Adults and Children organization. He is also an accomplished tennis player, published author, and outstanding friend. Angel Udosen Lithia Springs High School Angel plans to attend Kennesaw State University Angel was selected by the faculty at Lithia Springs High School as the best all around student in the Class of 2023. Angelena Jackson Woodward Academy Undecided Angie Jackson is a top level scholar, high level athlete, and first chair musician. Angie is the very embodiment of what it means to be a well-rounded student. In the midst of all of her accomplishments and accolades, what makes Angie truly stand out is her spirit of positivity and her genuine humility. She is an inspiration to all in our community. Anjali Kanuru The Walker School College- Undecided Anjali is kind, tenacious, and dedicated to everything and everyone she works with. Through her numerous leadership and mentorship roles, Anjali consistently demonstrates her love of community on and off campus. She is gifted at working with younger students and encouraging them to see themselves as leaders and future changemakers. The value she places on service, integrity, and innovation is seen in everything she touches in and outside the classroom, and she will be a force for good in the world. Annie McCormick Adairsville High School GA Tech Annie McCormick is not just an achiever, she likes learning. She is reliable and consistently scores best in the class. She is also honest and kind. Her meticulous nature and honorable ethics are only outweighed by her consistent daily work ethic and time management skills. Her brilliant mind accompanied with her undeniable drive for excellence is the reason she has achieved so many accomplishments beyond that of her peers. She is a member of the volleyball and soccer teams, yearbook editor, and State Champion for Argumentative Writing in Literary. She does all these through meticulous planning and with joy in her heart. Our school counts on her and she lives up to the expectation every time. Arianna Dunkley River Ridge High School Dartmouth or Duke Arianna participates in Basketball Cheer and class rank is in the top five percent. Arianna is a well rounded student athlete who is admired by her peers and serves in her community. Ariel Abernathy Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School University of GA Ariel is our schools everything! She is the first student who faculty & staff think of when we need a student to represent our student body. She is always serving others and the first to volunteer. She is the Executive VP of Student Council, cheer captain, organizer of the ALS team, leader of the primary school reader program, tour guide, Black Student Union President, in addition to participating and leading several other student clubs, while also taking a very challenging course load. She has handled this with grace while also losing her father a few years ago to ALS. Arthur (Trey) Dale Grant III Shiloh High School Arthur (Trey) will be attending Jacksonville University in The Honor’s Program Arthur Dale Grant III (Trey) is an exemplary Shiloh General. He maintains a 3.9 GPA while doing Dual Enrollment at Georgia State Perimeter College for the past two years. He has also passed 3 AP exams and is scheduled to take 2 more soon. He has participated in the marching band, symphonic band, and jazz band for the past 4 years. Arthur has also lettered on the swim and dive, golf, and tennis teams. Overall, he is a very well rounded young man! Asanshay Gupta Atlanta International School Stanford University Asanshay Gupta is gifted at finding real-world opportunities to apply what he has learned to benefit society. He has been one of the lead programmers with the award-winning AIS IHOT Robotics team since 10th grade. He received an IB MYP Innovators grant, from IBO and the Ashoka foundation, to create a fully mobile eye tracking powered wheelchair for paralyzed people. The following summer Asanshay began to develop the Oxygen Planner App aimed at helping makeshift COVID-19 facilities in India. Today, over 100 medical practitioners are using Asanshay’s app to monitor the oxygen supply/flow rates in their facilities. Ashary Briana Jones Rockdale Career Academy SCAD Vibrant. Selfless. Caring. Bright. Ashary is full of life and enthusiastic about herself and others, always entering a room with a charismatic smile, ready to help anyone. She looks after her classmates and supports them academically and emotionally, quick to help them understand a lesson or get over heartache. She is also an active member of FCCLA, as her future career goal is to be an interior designer. Ashary does all this while maintaining a 3.9 GPA and attending Rockdale Career Academy and Heritage High School and taking Dual Enrollment courses through Georgia Piedmont Technical College. Ashley Marshall Columbia High School Alabama State University Ashley Marshall is an outstanding student who has demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement throughout high school. Her acceptance into over 10 universities and her selection to attend Alabama State University to pursue a degree in Psychology is a testament to her academic abilities, determination, and commitment to excellence. Ashley has received over $150K in scholarship money. Additionally, Ashley has made significant contributions to her school and community. Her participation in the Interact Club, CHS Dancing Dolls, Lady Eagles Manager, Student Government Association, Upward Bound, and Senior Class President has demonstrated her leadership skills and commitment to serving others. Avery Adams KIPP Atlanta Collegiate Texas A&M University Avery Adams was nominated and selected with prestigious honor to be the recipient of the AJC Cup Award for KIPP Atlanta Collegiate. Avery is an amazingly well-rounded scholar academically and socially. She maintained a Principal’s List honor roll status throughout her high school career and is graduating in the top 10 of the Class of 2023. She is a proud member of the Sounds of Royalty band, being a Drum Major throughout her senior year. Additionally, Avery is an athlete on KAC’s varsity Track and Field team. She is an active member of National Honor Society as well as many of the subject specific honor societies, such as Science, English, Mathematics, and History NHS. Avery plans to attend Texas A&M University as a Mechanical Engineering major. I believe Avery will achieve success in the path she has chosen for her life. Barbara Simmons Martha Ellen Stilwell School of the Arts Barbara has plans to attend a four year institution.and has been accepted to both Georgia Institute of Technology College of Engineering or Vanderbilt University she will finalize her college decision soon. Barbara possesses a rare combination of natural ability and a strong desire to learn. She demonstrates a remarkable aptitude for science and consistently displays a passion for the subject matter. She eagerly participates in discussions, asks insightful questions, and seeks to deepen her understanding of complex scientific concepts. Her work exhibits a high level of critical thinking and problem-solving ability. Her curiosity and creativity in approaching laboratory experiments are truly impressive. She challenges herself by taking various courses to broaden her knowledge of science. Barbara is Martha Ellen Stilwell’s School of the Arts Salutatorian: she holds the second highest grade point average in the graduating class of 2023. With her outstanding work ethic and strong interpersonal skills, she will make a great positive impact to the community. She is the State and International Science and Engineering Finalist of 2023 the president of the STEAM club and a member of the Chief Science Officer organization. Along with her team, she has taken on two STEAM projects this year, building a school garden with a sprinkler system and the organization of a STEAM career fair. She has established an excellent rapport with various constituents, including nonprofit organizations, students, administrators, and staff. Barbara demonstrates a strong commitment to helping others. She is actively involved in various peer mentoring programs and possesses great leadership qualities. She is always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that her peers understand the material while being patient and understanding in her approach. Her efforts have helped many students achieve success and have made a positive impact on the academic community here at Stilwell School of the Arts. Benjamin Irwin Buford High School United States Naval Academy Benjamin Irwin has set the standard for a student-athlete at Buford High School. He is ranked in the top of his graduating class, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and a National Merit Commended Scholar. Athletically he is a multiple state champion swimmer and Georgia state record holder. Benjamin Jones Sugar Hill Christian Academy University of Georgia Benjamin’s academic and extra-curricular achievements are extensive both inside school and out. He scores very high in standardized tests and has an excellent GPA. Benjamin has always pushed himself to excel at whatever he does. He takes initiative to pursue academic and personal interests without waiting for someone to present them to him. He has taken on multiple leadership positions in Tri-M Music Honors Society, Science National Honors Society, National Honor Society, and our Student Leadership Committee. He tutors in his spare time, and teaches private music lessons to younger students. Benjamin has a huge heart for service and works tirelessly towards the pursuit of knowledge-always with a spark of curiosity, eagerness, and tenacity! Bernardo Little Jr. Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School Georgetown University In addition to his academic excellence, Bernardo Little Jr stands out with his eagerness to lead. Leadership is his greatest strength. He has shown leadership by being a model of Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School’s culture of learning, work ethic and high standard of character. Additionally, Mr. Little is involved in several student led organizations, such as the Student Government Association (SGA). Mr. Little serves as the President for SGA. In his role as President, Mr. Little has effectively led the organization in addressing the needs and desires of the student body. Brayden Pilkenton Pike County High School South Georgia Technical School Brayden is a dedicated student, and his willingness to do whatever job that needs to be done has made a lasting impact. Brayden always shows great enthusiasm and excitement for his Agriculture Mechanics classes especially. Brayden currently serves as Pike County High School FFA president. He is also a member of the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association. Brayden is a capable, talented, dedicated, and personable young man. He is always quick to help others, striving to meet any needs that they may have. He has been a dedicated member of the Pike County High FFA for the past few years. His work ethic and drive have made him successful in all his high school activities, not just FFA. He is always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who may be in need. Brayden is known for his willingness to volunteer in any situation no matter the difficulty. This young man leads by example! Bridget Perez East Hall High School Bridget plans to attend UGA. Bridget is an active and engaged student, involved in various extracurricular activities while maintaining an excellent GPA and working part-time. She is also a light to those around her, always maintaining a positive attitude, even when faced with adversity. Bridget sets high goals for herself and demonstrates the hard work and perseverance it will take to achieve her dreams each and every day. She has been such a joy to work with and will do amazing things in this life. Caitlin Nguyen Coosa High School Yale University Caitlin Nguyen, our 2023 Salutatorian, has earned a core GPA of 4.0 while taking all academic classes at the Honors, AP, or Dual Enrollment level. President of Student Council, Vice President of National Honor Society, and a member of FBLA, Caitlin has competed in Academic Decathlon and Literary Arts, and she volunteers regularly at a local elementary school and other community events. She was selected by the Chamber of Commerce for the Leadership Rome program in 10th grade. She participated enthusiastically in the Yale Young Global Scholars program last summer and hopes to become an Ambassador for that program. Caleb Shoemake Mountain Education Charter High School — Forsyth Site Caleb plans to become a Firefighter. Caleb is a well-rounded student who forms positive relationships with students and teachers. He participates in various school activities and works in a full-time job. He is a hard worker and well-focused student. Our staff will miss Caleb! Camarion Gates Newnan High School Kennesaw State University Camarion Gates was selected for this recognition by the staff of Newnan High School. He demonstrates all the qualities of scholarship, leadership, and citizenship. Camarion has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school. Camilo Rodriguez Seckinger High School Georgia State then transfer to Georgia Tech Camilo chose to switch schools and attend Seckinger for its inaugural school year. He along with the remainder of the senior class has had the opportunity to establish the standard for graduating classes at Seckinger in the future. He has fully immersed himself into being an involved and dedicated leader in the school. He has shown grace and positivity while involved in a wide variety of clubs and sports. Camilo’s activities at Seckinger have included Student Council, Science National Honor Society, Soccer, Badminton, Podcast Club, Volleyball Club, and Asian American Student Association. Carlie Lumpkin Apalachee High School NYU – New York University Carlie has demonstrated excellent achievement with her academics and leadership. Carlie is in the top 10 students of her graduating class. Carlie was awarded the UGA Certificate of Merit in 2022. She is a member of the National Honors Society, National Technical Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, HOSA, and Skills USA. She was a state finalist for the Governors Honors Program. She was awarded the Coco Cola award for basketball in 2022 and was named team captain of her basketball team. She is class president of student council. Carlie’s excellence, commitment, and service makes her deserve this award. Caroline Bach McIntosh High School University of Georgia Caroline shows confidence in her interactions with others and in her leadership. She is competitive, striving to do her very best in academics and in other areas of her life. When Caroline has been faced with challenges, she is resourceful and works to create solutions. She is enthusiastic and a team player. Caroline has great personable skills, as she brings people together to reach goals. She is also ambitious, striving for the next accomplishment and goals for the future. Caroline Latimer Cornerstone Preparatory Academy Pensacola Christian College Caroline demonstrates exemplary academic success, a genuine desire to help and serve others making her stand out among the rest, she balances the pressures of an academically rigorous curriculum, extracurricular activities, and service work with excellence. Mission work is a large part of Caroline’s life and she has served abroad in the mission field both through her church and school. At home, she continues her mission work by serving twice a week in the children’s ministry at her church and mentoring younger students at school. Caroline has helped lead two separate Bible studies in her school. Her heart for missions has been recognized as she was awarded a Virtue and Valor Mentor award and the Camp Gideon character award. Carson Heath Creekview High School Georgia Institute of Technology Carson is one of a kind! His heart is bigger than most, and he is such a delight to be around! He is ranked 2nd in his class and has immersed himself in extra-curriculars and academics. He strives to be the very best and his teachers/classmates think he is the best as well! He is the Senior Class President, elected to Homecoming Court, and represents Creekview as the CCSD School Board Student Delegate where he attends all BOE meetings and provides input. Carson stays busy and somehow seems to manage it all calmly and collectively. His character is upstanding. He is an excellent role model and leader for all! Catherine Siguenza Starr’s Mill High School Undecided, but most likely Georgia Institute of Technology Catherine ‘Kitcat’ was chosen for this award not only for her success in the classroom, but also for her contributions to her school and community. She is at the top of her class academically, choosing only the highest level coursework and performing extremely well. Her teachers appreciate her work ethic and desire to achieve. They also speak of her exceptional attitude, respectfulness, and kind heart. She has been a tremendous asset to our school. Celestial Hersey Tapestry Public Charter School Undecided on which college she will attend but Celeste plans to become a pilot. Celeste is compassionate, driven, and thoughtful. She is one of the most genuinely kind people I have come across and she is respectful to everyone. Celeste’s infectious personality makes her a joy to have in class and she has the power to improve a person’s day with one brief conversation. It is rare to see Celeste not smiling and she is always willing to lend a helping hand to teachers and classmates. She is the founding member of our school’s aquarium club and is a valuable member of the Tapestry Public School community. Celine Nkem Houenou Grayson High School Celine Houenou is hard-working and inquisitive, asking many questions that are not just related to class material, but also to big picture questions about issues in the world. She is a natural leader who displays an outstanding level of character. Celine is creative, optismistic, passionate, and attentive. Her desire to excel, while juggling a busy schedule of rigorous classes and extracurricular activities speaks volumes about her character and ability to manage her respinsibilities. Celine is very active at school and in the community and is a great asset to those around her. As a member of the student council, she always comes up with unique ideas to build school spirit, faculty & staff relationship with each other and students. She works well with other students by assisting them in whatever needed tasks. In addition, she constantly works hard to make sure that her fellow collegues are successful in the classroom. Chance Twizere Clarkston High School Berry College Chance is a model student and joy. He loves helping people and hopes to give back to the community by volunteering to teach the youth about how to manage their finances to make sure they are successful in life. He is always respectful and available to assist. Christian Cohan North Paulding High School Attend University of Georgia Christian Cohan is a talented student who possesses a rare combination of admirable traits, athleticism, and a commitment to growth. Christian holds himself to a high standard of performance, inspiring other students while leading with a quiet confidence. Christian is an exemplary scholar, ranking 5th in his class with 15 AP courses, representing NPHS on Varsity Cross Country and Captain of Track/Field, and Vice President of the National Honors Society. Through his involvements, he has proven himself to be a leader and a contributing member of the community, as a student with sophisticated thinking skills, a polite demeanor, and a level of conscientiousness rarely found in teenagers. Christopher Martini The Cottage School Undecided, but most likely attending Emory or Rice Christopher Martini is The Cottage School’s Class of 2023 Valedictorian and Student Council Vice President. He is a peer tutor and student leader. He is a member of the Archery, eSports, and Math teams, as well as decorated member of our Drama program. Christopher was selected as member of the 59th cohort of the Governor’s Honors Program as a Social Studies major and volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House in his free time. Claire Brautigan Notre Dame Academy Claire is involved in the school and her Duluth community at the highest level. Interested in Marketing, Claire has shown an intuitive interest and ability in developing her ability to promote an event or participation in whatever she is working on. She has received her Gold Award in Girl Scouts and was nominated for an elite leadership award in the Girl Scouts. She is a full IB DP student with an A average. Claire Napier Holy Spirit Preparatory School Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) Claire Napier is an exceptional young woman, embodying all qualities of the AJC Cup. She excels academically, consistently achieving highest marks in our most rigorous Honors and AP courses. She spearheaded our schools Latin Honor Society and Latin V course offering. Claire is a Governor’s Honor Program Semi-Finalist, National Latin Exam silver medalist, and her visual arts masterpiece was selected to be showcased in the Atlanta Art Institute and the Atlanta Dogwood Festival. Claire plays multiple varsity sports, balances a part-time job, and is an active member of schools Pro-Life Apostolate, “Mercy Missions” homeless outreach, and Vacation Bible School leader. Connor Lannaman Sandy Creek High School Undecided Connor has been in Gifted and the College Advanced Placement program for four years. He will have completed eleven Advanced Placement courses by graduation in May. Connor currently has a 4.271 GPA and will graduate in the top 10 percent of his class. Connor received the Georgia Certificate of Merit. He was recognized as Junior Marshal for being in the top 10% of his graduating class. Corey Hammond Cherokee Bluff High School Georgia College Corey is a young lady whose character stands tall in every situation. She is a great student, a hard working athlete, and a great friend and teammate. She participates in her church and has served in the mission field abroad with her father who is also a missionary. Craig Jackson Monroe Area High School University of Michigan Craig Jackson really does it all. He excels in music as an active member of our marching band and choral groups. He is a founding member of our school’s eSports team and helped the team make State Playoffs several times. Craig is one of the most active patrons of the Monroe Area Media Center. He is a voracious reader in Book Club, runs the teleprompter for the StormCenter morning announcements team, and repairs devices at the Chromebook Help Desk. He is a leader for our student team, supporting new tech aides by providing instruction and support for everything from replacing broken screens to troubleshooting software problems. He is able to explain the process to fix specific technology issues and allow other students to learn new skills. Daniel Garner Mundy’s Mill High School He has a desire to attend college in the near future undecided Daniel was brought to my attention by a fellow teacher in the building. He has taken it upon himself to add in the care of another student that is in the school special education department. Daniel makes certain this student makes it to all of his classes on time, assist with school related assignments, and makes sure the young man eats daily. Mr. Garner even expressed the concern about the students hygiene. Upon the request by Daniel to allow special needs student have access to shower and be provided clean clothing regulary. Daniel makes certain the young man has access to the school showers and to clean clothing. He brings the young mans dirty clothes to the school where the nurse or I will wash them so the young man can take them home. In this day and time for a peer to be this involved and concerned for another human speaks volumes of this young man’s humanity. He does this without looking for any recognition or payment. He is just a concern young man showing humility and a kind heart for a fellow student. David Pineyro-Hernandez Cross Keys High School David plans to attend Kennesaw State University for two years and then transfer to Emory University. David is a hard-working student who puts leadership and great effort into his work. He is a member of both Beta Club and National Honor Society, the Hispanic Organization Promoting Education, and AVID. He exhibits a life of service to others and can be seen volunteering for any task in need. He is selfless, kind and committed to making our world a better place for both himself and his community. Emily Digby is the kindest and humblest of superstar athletes ever. ‘Digs’ as her teammates and coaches call her, plays softball and basketball for Dacula High School. She has been a starter and a leader since day 1 of her freshman year on the softball team. She broke several school records for season and career stats on her way to being a 4-time all-state and all-county player, including Gwinnett Dugout Club player of the year. However, she doesn’t carry a superstar ego, but rather the role of a mentor and leader for younger players. Erin Helmly Foothills Education Charter High School Athens Tech Erin Helmly was very motivated and had a clear plan in mind when she started at Madison Foothills. Graduating early is a significant accomplishment, and it’s impressive that she set goals and achieved them with determination. Erin suffers from a rare genetic disorder, KAT6A. Graduating early is a remarkable achievement that requires a great deal of focus and dedication. We hope her success inspires other students to pursue their goals with the same focus and commitment. Eshan Momin Alpharetta High School Eshan is currently deciding between the Robert W. Woodruff Scholarship at Emory University or University of Pennsylvania. Eshan Momin is an extraordinary individual and is the clear choice for the AJC Cup. He is captain of the debate team, student council Vice President, and President of HOSA. In debate, he is intelligent, hardworking, thoughtful, organized and dedicated. He is one of the top 5 best debaters in the country, maybe top 2 or 3. He researches approximately 30 hours per week via Google Scholar, HeinOnline, EBSCO, PubMed, Taylor and Francis, and Elsevier on current events and public policy (ranging from public health to national defense), collaborating with a 40-member team to ensure tournament success across multiple seasons. He has demonstrated tremendous commitment to the future of Alpharetta debate through volunteering to help with younger debaters, judging informal practice debates, and mentoring younger students in formal and informal ways. He exemplifies everything I want in a debate student. More than debate, he’s extremely well rounded. His interest in public health and medicine is demonstrated through being president of HOSA and Student Council Vice President. In HOSA, he manages a team of 15 in charge of 200-member organization at Alpharetta High School and supervises all chapter initiatives including all email communications sent to members. He’s also volunteered for the Principal Governance Council, coordinating with Alpharetta City Police Members, the school Principal, and community members to formulate school policy surrounding racial injustice and gun violence. He presented a student-led logistical report on common school problems from the student perspective, including important issues such as school safety. He also excels in academics he had a near-perfect score on the SAT and is graduating with perfect grades (his lowest grade in high school was a 93 and the vast majority of his grades are around 95% +). More than that, Eshan is just a great human being. He’s kind, hardworking, thoughtful, intelligent, and dedicated. I will miss this student next year and he deserves all the recognition in the world. Ethan Bearden Griffin High School Undecided as of yet Ethan continues to be a high performing student in all three areas: academics, school participation, and active school involvement during his entire four years been on the Principal’s List (All A’s) for all four years, has participated in school events such as Governor’s Honors, and is a member of Kappa League, a mentorship program sponsored by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated that develops leadership in African American males. He is also the drum major for the Griffin High School Band of Gold. Ethan Esclamado Pinecrest Academy Bucknell University Ethan’s accomplishments on the tennis court, in the classroom, and within the community are apparent to anyone who looks at his resume. He has been the recipient of one of our top formation awards each of his four years of High School. He plans on continuing his education and tennis career at Bucknell University next year. An accomplished athlete and an outstanding scholar, Eva is involved in many student activities, including the National Honor Society, Cross-Country, Soccer, and the school’s student-led FLAME retreat program. Exceptional would be the best word to describe Eva for her pure love for learning. She plans to study Biochemistry on a Pre-Med track at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the Honors Program Living Learning. Eva-Labelle Kenmoe Milton High School Undecided In addition to her academic gifts, Eva has invested considerable time in contributing to her community and exploring her chosen career path, a mature approach she continues today which will help her understand and apply her gifts. As a prospective pre-med student, Eva sought an internship in a medical office. She had to apply to ‘dozens’ of offices before her persistence resulted in an offer. Other students would likely have given up. This is just one of many examples of Eva’s passion and drive. Evan Lesure Maynard Jackson High School Undecided Evan has a true passion for community growth and development. He has maintained a balance of involvement in school organizations, achieving high grades, and sustaining a social life. Gracye Lamb Etowah High School Georgia Tech Gracye is currently ranked number rank one. However, she is less concerned about her class rank. She is more interested in giving her all to everything she touches and learning from every experience. For example, the math team was almost non-existent due to lack of leadership and lack of a club sponsor. Gracye took it upon herself to reinstate the team by locating a teacher sponsor, applying with administration even though it was past the deadline, and marketing to recruit new members. As President of the Math Team, Gracye witnessed the success of her efforts by recruiting more members than ever before and earning 2nd place in the JV math team competition. She is the Wing Improvement Coordinator for the student led tutoring program. She addresses problems and develops innovative solutions. She has tutored over 45 sessions herself. In addition, she has been invited to join academic clubs such as Beta, the National Honors Society, the National Spanish Honors Society, and the National English Society. Furthermore, she raised over $20,000 for Relay for Life. Hannah Davis East Paulding High School Young Harris College Hannah is one of the most outstanding students in my career. She has been a leader for multiple clubs and events. Hannah volunteers regularly for many different things including picking up trash on our school campus without being told more than once. She has participated in food ministries, children’s camps, and Night to Shine for multiple years as well. Henry Harper Whitefield Academy Possibly University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill Henry has done commendable work in greater Atlanta that has impacted major enterprises in Atlanta such as Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Passion City Church. He helped with the formation of an advocate youth group at CHOA that supports the families and siblings of patients with long term illnesses. He also created a scholarship at his church that pays for youth members to attend the annual Passions conference. On top of his community involvement, he maintains stellar grades in rigorous courses with hopes of majoring in business and becoming an entrepreneur. Henry’s community involvement deserves high regards, which is why he has been selected for this award. Hoake Mazzawi Hebron Christian Academy University of Georgia Hoake Mazzawi stands out in her graduating class as one of the top students in academic performance and personal integrity. Jean Yu Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, & Technology MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Jean Yu has extensive research and internships, conducted at top-tier colleges in the nation (Yale, Stanford, Emory). She filled her summers with lab research usually reserved for graduate students. She has been published alongside Ph.D researchers and awarded top honors in collegiate reviews, as well as being named a Regeneron Science Talent Search Scholar. She pursues projects that serve communities well beyond her neighborhood. She is a Youth Ambassador for ‘The Beacon of Hope’ Project, that fundraises for women in Nigeria, to provide surgeries for VVF. She founded a mindfulness organization during the pandemic. She is humble, kind, and a true servant leader. Jesse Shoemaker South Paulding High School University of North Georgia ( On a National 4-year Army ROTC Scholarship) Jesse Shoemaker has been chosen for the honor of being the AJC Cup recipient for 2023 due to his leadership, involvement in the community, academic achievements, and his perseverance through challenging times. Jesse is a positive role model to all students. He is the South Paulding High School Battalion Commander for JROTC and the SPHS Varsity Rifle Team Captain. He is a Life Scout and is currently finishing up his Eagle Scout project this month. His project has been tearing down a dilapidated stadium at the New Georgia Baseball Field and building an umpire building for the community. Jesse maintains a 4.0 weighted GPA while taking honors and advanced placement courses. He has overcome adversity as he grew up while his father was deployed overseas in the military and as his mother has undergone treatment and overcome stage 4 follicular lymphoma. He has had to be the man of the house on more than one occasion while growing up. He plans to attend the University of North Georgia on a National 4 -year Army ROTC Scholarship and major in Applied Mathematics. After college, he will commission in the U.S. Army and continue to serve his country as an Officer. He hopes to gain valuable experience in engineering and eventually pursue a career in that field. JoiSyni Frink Myles Midtown International School Louisiana State University Joi is an incredibly motivated, compassionate, and humble young woman who is an integral part of our school community. She is a natural leader and role model to her peers, always volunteering her time and putting others before herself. Jordan Huiet Johns Creek High School Will be attending Valdosta State University in the fall In every educator’s career, particular students will forever be remembered and cherished for their extensive list of admirable qualities. Confidently, Jordan Huiet is this type of student for many of us at Johns Creek High School. Each day Jordan can be seen throughout the school building exuding cheerfulness and consideration of peers and staff. She is a bright spot in anyone’s day. Her commitment and passion to numerous associations is impressive. She is a four-year football and competition cheerleader for JCHS. Her cheerleading coach, Caren Hudson states, “…she was always the first to arrive at 6:30 am practices, the first to roll out mats so that none of her teammates would have to do it and served as personal transportation to ensure every person arrived at practices on time, ready to work”. As one of the seniors on the team, this devotion led the team to impressively place 6th at the State competition. Joshua Jacobs II Heritage High School Kennesaw State University Joshua is a student who has always been involved in community service. Joshua takes on various projects that help build not only our school community, but Rockdale County community at large. He is always willing to lend a helping hand if it means beautifying the school or neighborhood, providing for those in need or simply assisting teachers with small projects. Joshua is also an active member of the National Art Honor Society. He is a member of our Fine Arts Academy and maintains a high GPA not only in his Arts Academy classes, but in all courses. In addition to all of this, he has always maintained a job or internship. Joshua is the epitome of a respect, honest and dedicated student. Kace Adams Cartersville High School Georgia Institute of Technolgy Kace Adams is an all-around athlete with a heart of gold! As a lifetime member of the Cartersville Purple Hurricane family, Kace embodies all that is honorable and excellent at CHS. He is an accomplished football player, baseball player, basketball player, and track and field star. His athletic prowess has extended to multiple sports, making him a versatile and valuable player on any team. His athletic abilities have earned him accolades and recognition from his coaches and peers, and have made him a well-respected athlete in his school and community. His talents are only matched by his leadership qualities and his outstanding academic achievements. These achievements have earned him recognition as a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Principal’s Leadership Team, and Senior Class Superlative. Despite his busy schedule, Kace always finds time for his favorite pastime, bowling. Carver Early College High School University of Georgia Kaden is a dedicated and resourceful scholar that constantly supports his classmates, teachers and community. He exudes the characteristics of a leader that makes sure that all around him elevate. Kaden is driven in his academic pursuits, gives back to his community through service and is a true representation of an all-around scholar. Kaelin Peavey Haralson County High School Still deciding between Jacksonville State University and the University of West Georgia Kaelin Peavey is a four-sport athlete at Haralson County High School. She is a state champion in gameday cheer, a two-time UCA All American Cheerleader, she qualified for the state championship as a tennis player, she is a captain on the girls soccer team that is the winningest team in school history, and was a state champion in Skills USA for Cosmetology. Kaelin is the only cheerleader in our school that has cheered for football, basketball and gameday competition for all four years of school. She was recently given the award as ‘The Heart of The Team’ award in cheer as a senior because of her leadership in that program. She is a dual enrollment student, graduating in the top of her class as an honor graduate and distinguished graduate. Kaelin is part of our school work study program and has worked in our school system central office and is now employed in an elementary school in our system. To balance all of those activities and to do it at such a high level of excellence, Kaelin truly embodies what this award is all about. Additionally, her involvement in organizations such as the Fulton County Youth Commission, National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Student Government Association demonstrates her leadership skills and dedication to serving her community. Kahyah’s willingness to help with school programs and events further showcases her teamwork and collaboration skills. Kaitlyn Park Duluth High School Georgia Tech Kaitlyn is an excellent student, successfully balancing a rigorous academic schedule of honors and AP classes. She is a tri-sport athlete and a 4 year varsity letter winner in each. She leads by example and motivates her teammates with her work ethic and competitive spirit. Kaitlyn has worked hard with National Honor Society to ensure the success of International Night, one of our school’s most popular celebrated initiatives. Kalea Felix Independence High School Undecided Kalea is a member of the Girls for Girls Group. She is an active participant in the monthly activities with Family First Organization as well as the community service projects. She has collected toiletries for the local women’s shelter, created Thanksgiving gifts for the local senior home, read stories to the local pre-school, and marched in the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. She goes out of her way to give back to the community and seek ways on how she can do more. She is eager to continue her education through cosmetology school where she can continue to spread her service attitude with a huge smile on her face. Kamille L. Sims Westlake High School undecided Kamille Sims is a phenomenal student who ranks in the top 5% of the senior. She is an active member of the Westlake Magnet Program and Blue Reign Dance Team. Kamille was crowned Miss Westlake which demonstrates that she is well respected by her peers and the staff at Westlake. The words performance-driven, exuberant, and warm-hearted suitably fit Kamille’s personality. Her most outstanding trait is her propensity to help others. While maintaining an A average in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, Karen also serves on the faculty-nominated Peer Leadership team, leads fellow cadets in JROTC, and volunteers with the Hispanic Heritage Society and Future Business Leaders of America. In 2022, she was one of four students chosen from the district to speak in a panel facilitated by Lin Manuel Miranda for When We All Vote. Karen is a well-informed, globally-minded student who uses her voice to enhance class discussions and advocate for social justice. In my opinion, these qualities are what set Keith apart from his peers and are what the world desperately needs from our next generation of changemakers Kelechi Nwaozuzu Union Grove High School Georgia Institute of Technology Kelechi is a leader in all that he does. He excels in and out of the classroom. He has worked hard so that he can be a successful student and athlete. Kelechi also assisted in running a school-based business, was a leader to our upcoming 9th graders, and is an involved member of the Athletic Leadership Council. He is always willing to participate or to lend a helping hand, whether it be in the numerous clubs that he is involved in or tutoring students in the counseling office. He truly demonstrates what we call the “wolverine way,” and we are happy to have him represent UGHS as The AJC Cup Winner. Kennedy Allen Stockbridge High School North Carolina A&T Kennedy is the epitome of a well-rounded student. She is a leader, excels in her academics, and has a big heart. I would describe Kennedy as hard-working, dependable, and consistent. Kennedy Dean Lambert High School University of Georgia Kennedy is a delight to have in class, easily one of the most academically-inclined students several of us have taught in almost 20 years. She is curious and a beautiful, complex writer and thinker. She is willing to ask questions, willing to work with others, and driven. I knew no matter whom she worked with, the group would succeed with Kennedy there to lead, this includes the classroom and the athletic field. She looks at each opportunity, each lesson, as a chance to grow and to learn. Students don’t come any better than Kennedy. Kenneth Brayboy Eagle’s Landing High School Clayton State University Resilient. Tough. Quick. Grit. Hard-working. These are a few of the words most people think of when trying to describe Kenneth Brayboy. His quiet demeanor gives no hint to the strong personality that lies underneath his skin. However, just watch him play basketball and you will see what he is made of. He is not just a great player, but he is a hard-working player. What impresses us most about Ken (or Brayboy as we call him), is that his drive to succeed does not end at the basketball court. Just as his hands are quick on the court, his mind is quick in the classroom. Ken has always chosen the most rigorous curriculum available to him and will be recognized at the top of his class as a magna cum laude graduate. He has taken a variety of both dual enrollment and advanced placement courses and always excels. The ELHS faculty and staff hold high standards for our Golden Eagles and Kenneth Brayboy has exceeded those standards. We are proud to submit him as our 2023 AJC Cup recipient. Laila Wood Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology Tuskegee University Laila is the epitome of everything we aspire our RMSST graduates to be. She has embraced academic challenges through balancing multiple advanced placement courses and completing a healthcare CTAE pathway at our county’s career center. Her stellar academic record has landed her in the top 5% of our graduating class. Laila is a multi-sport student athlete holding awards and recognitions in softball, gymnastics, track, and field. Beyond the accolades, Laila is a phenomenally genuine person. She is a joy to be around, incredibly helpful, and always possesses a positive disposition. Laila will attend Tuskegee University on a full scholarship. Lamy Laba Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. High School I am still deciding, but it is between Dallas-Baptist university in Texas or Kennesaw State University. Lamy has always had such a positive attitude and aura. She is a joy to have in class by bringing calmness and intellectual group discussions. She engages in every lesson, is detailed-oriented, and cares about herself, work, and others. As a student, Lamy worked well with her peers in small group settings. Lamy will go out of her way to help others and get the job done. On multiple occasions, Lamy stepped in to help students in distress and/or in need. And she does it with a smile on her face. Laney Cline Cherokee High School University of Georgia Laney’s response to a question on a scholarship application showcased her involvement in a wide range of extracurricular activities both at school and in the community. Over the course of her four years in high school, Laney participated in several activities that not only benefited her personal growth but also helped her career growth. At school, she contributed to her student newspaper, the Warrior Word, for one year, covering a variety of topics such as internet safety and mental health. She was also an active member of service clubs such as Beta, the National Honors Society, and the National English Honors Society, where she served as a tutor at the school’s writing center in 11th grade, assisting other students with their assignments and college essays. In addition, Laney served on the Environmental Action Club Council, organizing school cleanups, facilitating recycling services, and hosting special events such as the Bob Ross Paint-A-Long in collaboration with the Art Club. On the athletic side, Laney played doubles for the Cherokee Girl’s Tennis Team for all four years of high school, and was a 4-year varsity letterman. She helped take her team to state for the first time since the 1970s, and was selected to join the Student Athlete Leadership Team in 11th grade, where she and her team organized impact projects such as the Special Needs Field Day, ran the school’s food pantry, and visited classrooms to read to elementary school children. Laney was also an active member of the Alpha Gamma Service Club, where she hosted service projects and student life events such as the annual Powderpuff Football Game. She was invited to join the Leadership Council in 11th grade, where she took on a more significant role in coordinating events. After school, Laney interned at her local 4-H office through her school’s Work Based Learning Program, where she assisted in holding 4-H club meetings and helped office staff with daily tasks. She also worked as a produce clerk at her local Publix since 2021. Laney’s involvement in 4-H was her most meaningful activity, as it helped her find her passion for Family and Consumer Sciences and focus on her intended career. She had been involved in 4-H since the 5th grade and had competed in District Project Achievement for eight consecutive years in family resource management, communications, fashion revue, and textiles. She served as her county council president for three years in a row and volunteered as a certified Teen Leader. Laney also competed on her county’s Cotton Bowl and Consumer Judging Team and was proud to be a 2-time Master 4-H’er in the Fashion Revue Project and Citizenship, as a National 4-H Conference Delegate. Additionally, Laney served as a CanTeen Councilmember with the City of Canton, where they organized service events and teen job fairs. Overall, Laney’s involvement in these extracurricular activities had been instrumental in her development over the past four years. Lauren Charleston Lacey North Gwinnett High School University of Georgia Charley has carried a rigorous academic schedule and has invested hundreds of hours into how our campus can be better, engage more students, and be a true community. She is involved in varsity athletics (lacrosse and flag football). She has been in Student Council executive roles all four years and currently is President. She helped to unite StuCo with Relay For Life to collaborate on events. He brings people together and builds communities through the school’s HOPE (Hispanic Organization Promoting Education) Program, where he serves as President. Luis is also involved with the BETA Club, National Honor Society (Committee Chair), Hispanic Honor Society (President), and JROTC (Drill Team Commander/Color Guard Captain). He does all of this while maintaining a 4.393 GPA and being a Supervisor at Six Flags. Luis is one of the most scholarly, committed, and compassionate students I have encountered in my 26 years as an Educator. Luke Marshall Northview High School Georgia Tech or the University of Virginia Before my four years at Northview, I attended seven different schools. While my time at Northview has been the best of my life, I am also grateful for my other experiences, as they have helped me form a more mature and complete version of myself. Mac Duren The King’s Academy William Carey University Mac Duren, a gifted and well-rounded student leader at TKA, is well deserving of this award. His roles include NHS co-president, Beta Club member, FCA Team Leader, and Varsity Basketball player. Well-known as a talented musician, he leads music for school events, serves as a local church worship leader, and co-wrote the bestselling Christian song, “Glorious God. He maintains a dual-enrolled schedule at Chattahoochee Technical College, is employed part-time, and will graduate with an above 4.0 GPA. Mac balances these many activities with humility, grace and excellence. Macey Jordan Alcovy High School She plans to attend a 4yr university. She has been accepted into several colleges in-state as well as out of state. Macey is an intelligent young lady who also displays respect for self and others. She volunteers around the school and assists when asked by teachers, staff, and peers. She has a great personality and her smile is infectious. Macey is graduating as an Honor Graduate with a 4.0 GPA MacKenzie Moreno East Coweta High School Mercer University – Macon The faculty and staff at East Coweta High School can describe MacKenzie as young lady who is empathetic, strong-willed, involved, and ambitious. She is a leader in the classroom as well as an athlete. She is respected by her peers and adults and exemplies the characteristics of the AJC Cup award. Madelyn Lee Dawson County High School University of Alabama @ Birmingham Madelyn is a complete student. Though highly attentive to her academic performance, Madelyn has found time to balance a fully rounded HS experience. She has served in a variety of leadership roles at DCHS, which she punctuated with her selection as a Senior Class Officer.
