Rationalism
is a philosophical standpoint that emphasizes the role of reason as the primary source and test of knowledge. It holds that human beings possess knowledge and that learning involves accessing this knowledge and building upon it. Rationalism regards reason as the chief source of knowledge, contrasting with other potential sources such as faith, tradition, or sensory experience. It is characterized by the belief that the world is rationally ordered and that the parts of it are linked by logical necessity. Rationalism played a critical role in the Enlightenment period, where it was associated with the idea that knowledge is obtained through the use of logic, independently of sensory experience[1][2][3][4]. In general, rationalism prioritizes reason over emotion or religion in guiding actions and forming opinions[5].
